Betagro, a Thai integrated food company, has acquired a majority stake in Freshket, a digital food supply platform for the hotel, restaurant, and catering sector.
In a statement on Tuesday, Betagro said the deal was made through Betagro Ventures, without any financial detail.
Betagro said the deal marks its entry into food technology and extends its food business from production to digital distribution. The acquisition can strengthen its foodservice business by linking its certified food production and nationwide logistics network to Freshket’s platform.
Freshket was founded in 2017 and connects farmers and producers directly with foodservice businesses. Its platform offers more than 10,000 products to more than 20,000 operators, with delivery accuracy above 98.5 percent. Customers use it to simplify logistics, reduce food waste, and improve supply-chain transparency.
Freshket plans to upgrade its cold-chain logistics and expand its imported range, including seafood, premium Japanese ingredients, cheese, and butter. It also plans to extend its service area beyond Bangkok, Pattaya, Hua Hin, and Khon Kaen to greater Bangkok and major regional cities.
Betagro and Freshket said the partnership would give hotel, restaurant, and catering operators faster access to a wider range of products, including meat, fresh produce, dry goods, and frozen items, at lower cost. Freshket would gain upstream supply, logistics support, and capital. Meanwhile, Betagro would gain a direct digital channel to foodservice customers and more efficient management of raw materials and distribution.
Chayadhorn Taepaisitphongse, president of animal nutrition and new ventures at Betagro, said Freshket had built the leading digital channel to Thailand’s foodservice operators. Betagro can bring the production and logistics scale to support it.
Ponglada Paniangwet, CEO and co-founder of Freshket, said the backing would let the company deliver high-quality and cost-effective ingredients to foodservice operators.
