Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung urged French quantum computing company Pasqal and Vietnam’s tech giant FPT to turn their cooperation ideas into concrete programs.
Dung made the suggestion at a meeting on Monday with executives of Pasqal and FPT. The cooperation should further progress with committed resources and clear timelines, he added.
Deputy PM Dung said quantum technology is a strategic field with connection to national security, national data, semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), and space technology. Vietnam will tie quantum development to practical problems and avoid spreading investment too thinly, he added.
Dung said the resolution calls for a strategic technology and industry program and a strategic industry development fund, with quantum among the priority areas. He welcomed the proposals from Pasqal and FPT, and asked both companies to turn their discussed plans into specific cooperation, backed by committed resources and timelines.
Pasqal is working with FPT and hopes to launch quantum cloud programs soon, allowing research institutes and universities to access the technology, said Mark Armstrong, Pasqal’s chief commercial officer for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific.
FPT and Pasqal are discussing a roadmap to bring quantum computing to Vietnamese universities, research institutes and businesses, with the longer-term aim of building quantum infrastructure in Vietnam. The two firms seeks joint research on quantum algorithms and applications, the co-development and manufacture of quantum computers, advanced training, and business cooperation.
Armstrong said Pasqal wants to hire locally, transfer skills, train university lecturers, and build research capabilities among Vietnamese scientists and engineers.
Dung said the government encourages international technology companies to expand research, training and innovation in Vietnam. The Vietnamese government is ready to create favorable conditions within the legal framework, he emphasized.
