VentureTECH, a Malaysian government-backed impact investment company, announced on Tuesday its investments in pharmaceutical company Hanan Medicare and agritech firm AgriData Portal.

While operating in different sectors, both companies are developing capabilities in areas of strategic importance to Malaysia.

Hanan Medicare is expanding into higher-value biopharmaceutical manufacturing, with a focus on biosimilars including insulin, while AgriData Portal is scaling an integrated agricultural model that combines technology, financing, farm management and market access for smallholder farmers in Sabah, according to a statement.

The investments support the broader aspirations of the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan (RMK13) and the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035 (PuTERA35) to strengthen strategic industries, develop homegrown capabilities and enable more
Bumiputera companies to participate in high-growth, high-value (HGHV) sectors.

“Our focus is on companies that have the potential to build meaningful capabilities in strategic industries and create sustainable impact beyond their own growth. Hanan Medicare and AgriData Portal represent two distinct pathways towards that objective, one through higher-value biopharmaceutical manufacturing and the other through the use of technology to strengthen agricultural productivity and market access,” said VentureTECH Officer-in-Charge and COO Nizam Mohd Reza.

The investments were formalized at the VentureTECH Investment Agreement Signing Ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur, witnessed by Mohd Shahar Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Economy, who attended as Guest of Honour.

Established in 2014, Hanan Medicare is a Bumiputera pharmaceutical company with experience in oral solid dosage (“OSD”) and medical products. In 2025, the company embarked on its next phase of growth by expanding into biosimilar manufacturing, moving into a higher-value and more technologically complex segment of the pharmaceutical industry.

Meanwhile, the investment in AgriData Portal marks VentureTECH’s maiden investment in Sabah, expanding its investment footprint into East Malaysia.

Established in 2020, AgriData Portal is a homegrown, impact-driven agritech company founded to address challenges faced by local smallholder farmers due to fragmented supply chain with unpredictable finances, lack of modern farm support
and absent wider market access. To address these challenges, AgriData Portal has developed an integrated, seed-to-market agriculture solution for smallholder farmers.

These investments reflect VentureTECH’s continued commitment to supporting Bumiputera companies with the ambition and capabilities to contribute to strategic national priorities.

By backing companies that build capabilities in high-value sectors, VentureTECH said it aims to strengthen Malaysia’s innovation ecosystem while creating sustainable economic and socio-economic value for the nation.
