Genting Malaysia Bhd (GENM) and Alibaba Cloud (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Alibaba Cloud) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore opportunities for collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing and digital transformation across GENM’s business operations.
The MoU was signed at Alibaba Group Headquarters in Hangzhou, China, with GENM represented by Lim Keong Hui, Deputy Chief Executive & Executive Director of Genting Malaysia, witnessed by Tan Yi-Sheng, Executive Vice President of Strategy, Transformation, Analytics and Results at Resorts World Genting; while Alibaba Cloud was represented by Larry Meng, Chief Financial Officer of International Business Unit, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, witnessed by Choong Hon Keat, General Manager of Malaysia, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence.
According to a statement, the MoU builds on the existing relationship between GENM and Alibaba Cloud, following their
previous collaboration with Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park, where AI and cloud technology was explored to support the guest experience.
The latest collaboration provides a broader framework for both parties to explore further opportunities across GENM’s business operations.
Through the MoU, both parties will explore potential applications of Alibaba Cloud’s AI and cloud technologies across GENM’s diverse business operations, including opportunities that may support employee productivity, operational efficiency and the enhancement of guest experiences.
“As a business with diverse operations, we see opportunities to evaluate how AI and cloud technologies can help our teams work more effectively and enhance the experiences we offer our guests,” said Lim.
“This MoU allows us to take a structured approach to identifying relevant use cases, testing their suitability and assessing their value before considering wider adoption. We look forward to building on our existing relationship with Alibaba Cloud as we advance our digital capabilities,” he added.
“Genting SkyWorlds demonstrated how AI and cloud technology can be applied to a practical operational challenge while enhancing the guest experience,” said Choong.
As both parties continue to explore areas of mutual interest, the focus will be on understanding where technology can bring practical value to GENM’s operations and support its longer-term digital development.
With a shared goal of exploring the potential of AI and cloud technology, the two companies will continue to identify areas where these capabilities can add value to GENM’s operations and support the experiences it delivers to customers, the company added.
