Singapore’s fileAI, the developer of file automation software fileForge, has secured investments from the corporate venture arms of Japan’s SMBC and Singapore’s Singtel Group, though the parties did not disclose other details.

In a statement on Thursday, fileAI, also an enterprise (AI) company, said the backing came from SMBC Asia Rising Fund and Singtel Innov8. fileAI will utilize the fund to support an expansion in Japan and deepen its work in financial services as it scales a platform for enterprises handling large volumes of file and data workflows.

fileAI also announced fileScout, a tool for mapping unstructured enterprise data that can reduce the token costs of processing that data. fileScout can captures, validates, matches, and reconciles records, then publishes verified and audit-ready outputs into enterprise systems.

The investment follows a June 2026 partnership with JRE Ventures, the corporate venture arm of Japan’s JR East Group. fileAI said the new capital would fund a local Japan team across sales, engineering, and customer success. It can extend its work applying AI agents to the digitization of legacy contracts and operational documents.

fileAI said its tools can address banking and financial-services tasks such as statement and covenant extraction, know-your-customer and onboarding checks, reconciliation, and regulatory reporting across large, multi-entity organizations.

Singtel Innov8 said it saw growing demand to turn complex, unstructured information into structured data that enterprises can trust and use at scale. SMBC said it expects fileAI’s tools to improve data accessibility, operational efficiency, and decision-making.

Christian Schneider, fileAI’s chief executive and a co-founder, said AI would become an operating layer for large enterprises but could not be built on fragmented data or rising computing costs. fileAI aims to build a global enterprise AI business from Asia, the executive added.

fileAI raised $14 million in a Series A round in February 2025, led by Illuminate Financial, Antler Elevate, Insignia and Heinemann Group, bringing its total raised to about $20 million. It said it had processed more than 1 billion files to date.
