Fujitsu has introduced a cyber defense lifecycle strategy that aims to give executives and security teams a common operating model for responding to increasingly complex attacks.

The Japanese technology company said the approach combines a new Cyber Defense Operations Model and Framework, an organization-wide monitoring concept called the Cyber Nerve System, and a virtual Cyber Security Nerve Center staffed by about 100 specialists.

A common model for security decisions

In an August 26 announcement, Fujitsu said the framework is designed to connect technical detection with management decisions such as shutting down systems, prioritizing recovery work and allocating security investment.

The Cyber Nerve System is intended to collect and visualize threats and business risks across an organization. The virtual nerve center would bring together expertise from different Fujitsu units so teams can analyze incidents and coordinate a response instead of treating each system or business function separately.

Fujitsu divides its operating concept into four models covering security domains, defensive philosophy, organizational relationships and proximity to assets and decision-makers. Its philosophy includes what the company calls deceleration defense: slowing an attack’s progress and limiting the damage while defenders investigate and respond.

The company argues that conventional controls often focus too heavily on preventing entry, even though organizations also need to operate through incidents and recover critical functions. The lifecycle model therefore spans preparation, detection, response, recovery and improvement.

AI is planned for offensive and defensive testing

Fujitsu said it plans to apply artificial intelligence to threat hunting, red-team exercises and vulnerability assessment. The goal is to help analysts identify suspicious behavior, simulate attacks and examine large systems more quickly.

Those capabilities are not all generally available. Fujitsu said it will progressively commercialize services built around the strategy, so buyers will need to distinguish between the operating framework, current consulting or managed services, and tools still under development.

The company also plans to expand its Security Meister training program to develop personnel who can work across engineering, operations and management. Skills remain a constraint for enterprises adopting AI-enabled security because automated findings still require investigation, prioritization and accountability.

Part of a broader Japanese cyber effort

Fujitsu linked the strategy to Project YATA-Shield, an initiative announced in May under a Japanese government program focused on using AI for cybersecurity. The company said that work is intended to contribute threat-analysis and defensive technologies to the wider framework.

The announcement does not disclose customer deployments, pricing or measured improvements in detection and recovery. It also does not provide a firm release schedule for the planned AI services. Those gaps make the initiative best understood as Fujitsu’s operating and product direction rather than proof of an already deployed system.

For enterprises in Japan and the wider Asia-Pacific region, the proposal reflects a shift from isolated security tools toward coordinated resilience. Whether the model improves outcomes will depend on implementation, access to reliable telemetry and the authority given to teams during a live incident.
