China’s electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer BYD and Australia’s salary packaging and novated leasing provider Smart will jointly offer BYD and DENZA electric vehicles available through novated leases to more than 2.5 million Australians employed by Smart’s clients.
In a statement on Sunday, BYD said the two have signed a strategic partnership for the move. The 2.5 million Australian employed by Smart’s clients feature sectors of in the government, healthcare, education, corporate, and not-for-profit sectors.
The partnership integrates salary packaging support into BYD’s dealership experience at the point of sale. As a result, it provides eligible customers access to potential tax savings available through novated leasing, including those under the government’s EV discount. Smart supports more than 580,000 salary packaging customers and has more than 120,000 novated lease and fleet vehicles under management.
BYD Australia recorded year-to-date sales of 52,335 vehicles at the end of June 2026, more than double the figure at the same point the previous year. EV batteries accounted for 23 percent of the new vehicle market in Australia in June 2026, according to data.
Wing You, General Manager of BYD Australia, said the partnership with Smart allows the company to integrate novated leasing support into the dealership experience. It can help customers understand affordability, savings, and ownership options at the point of sale.
Sid Jha, Group Executive for Novated Leasing and Electric Vehicle Services at Smart, said integrating salary packaging into the BYD customer journey removes friction at a critical point in the purchase process.
