Germany’s Infineon Technologies and VinRobotics, a robotics company established by Vietnam’s conglomerate Vingroup, will collaborate on the development of humanoid robots, with a joint competency center to be established at VinRobotics’ Hanoi office.
In separate statements released on Tuesday, the two companies said they signed a memorandum of understanding for the move in May. The VinRobotics-Infineon Competency Centre will serve as a hub for technical exchange and co-innovation, with Infineon participating in VinRobotics’ robotics projects from the early stages of development.
Besides, Infineon will share semiconductor expertise and contribute to training programs for VinRobotics research and development personnel.
The partnership will combine VinRobotics’ capabilities in robotics and AI with Infineon’s portfolio of microcontrollers, power systems, and sensors, alongside its connectivity, safety, and security solutions. Infineon offers Silicon, Silicon Carbide, and Gallium Nitride solutions covering all key functional blocks in a humanoid robot, with an average semiconductor bill of materials of around $500 per robot.
Philipp von Schiersteadt, Chief Sales Officer for Compute, Consumer and Communication at Infineon, said the collaboration with VinRobotics will focus on accelerating the development of next-generation humanoid robots for deployment across industry, services, and the home. Infineon also highlighted the partnership reinforces its commitment to Southeast Asia, which it described as one of the world’s most promising growth markets for robotics.
Ngo Quoc Hung, CEO of VinRobotics, said the partnership will help lay the foundation for a new generation of robotics solutions developed in Vietnam, serving both the domestic market and gradually expanding into international markets.
