Danantara Indonesia is accelerating digital transformation across Indonesia’s state-owned enterprises (SOEs) as part of efforts to improve efficiency, strengthen inter-company synergies and enhance national competitiveness amid rapid technological change.

In a statement on Thursday, the state investment agency said it held a Digital Transformation Coordination Meeting involving around 60 major SOE holding companies from strategic sectors to align digital policies, transformation plans and implementation strategies under a unified framework.

Danantara Indonesia Chief Technology Officer Sigit Puji Santosa said the initiative aims to ensure that digital transformation efforts across SOEs are integrated rather than carried out separately.

“Danantara Indonesia has a central role in aligning direction, platforms, talent and governance so that every digital initiative in SOEs can generate efficiency, performance improvements and collective value for the country,” he said.

The transformation agenda supports Indonesia’s broader national development priorities, including strengthening digital sovereignty and accelerating the industrialization of domestic digital products.

Danantara said the digital overhaul will focus on strengthening business models, operational systems, customer experience, technology infrastructure, governance and data management across SOEs.

The agency also aims to encourage greater collaboration among state firms through the consolidation of digital platforms, shared technology capabilities and integrated infrastructure.

According to Danantara, areas with high duplication, such as technology procurement, software licensing, digital infrastructure and shared services, could potentially generate efficiency gains of between 25% and 40%, depending on the readiness and characteristics of each SOE.

The initiative comes as Indonesia faces growing pressure to adapt to rapidly evolving technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), advanced analytics, post-quantum readiness and cybersecurity.

Danantara said the forum marked an early step toward developing a roadmap for the adoption of frontier technologies to support productivity improvements, better decision-making and innovation across industries.

AI is expected to play a significant role in future transformation efforts, alongside broader digital integration initiatives designed to improve operational performance and competitiveness.

The agency also highlighted the importance of developing digital talent, noting that Indonesia is projected to require an additional 600,000 digital workers annually through 2030, citing data from the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs.

To address the talent gap, Danantara said it is adopting a “Triple Helix” approach involving collaboration between government, industry and academia to accelerate talent development, research and the commercialization of innovation.

In addition, Danantara is promoting the development of strategic domestic technologies such as sovereign AI and sovereign cloud infrastructure to strengthen national technological capabilities.

The digital transformation program will be implemented in phases, beginning with assessments of digital readiness across SOEs and the establishment of collaborative foundations during the first six months.

This will be followed by the rollout of an integrated digital roadmap overseen by the Danantara Digital Transformation Task Force, which will coordinate governance and implementation across the SOE ecosystem.

Danantara said the framework would allow transformation progress to be monitored more clearly and transparently while enabling SOEs to support each other in areas such as financial management, auditability, data integration and operational performance improvements.
