StarMason JSC, a joint venture between Singapore’s Sembcorp Development and Vietnam’s BB Holdings, has received investment approval for the proposed development of a state-of-the-art hyperscale- and AI-ready data center campus in Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP), Ho Chi Minh City.
In a press release on Friday, Sembcorp said StarMason plans to progress evaluation and detailed development planning for a scalable, high-performance campus in Ho Chi Minh City on a site spanning approximately 4.5 hectares. The campus can support up to 90MW of computing capacity. It is design to meet the international standard for data center performance, Uptime Institute Tier III classification, with the ambition of achieving the highest Tier IV classification.
The project is also the first data center project of StarMason.
This investment approval is a key milestone that allows Sembcorp to contribute its development expertise in support of high‑performance infrastructure for hyperscalers and AI‑driven businesses in Vietnam, said Sembcorp Development CEO Lee Ark Boon.
According to Ho Chi Minh City municipality’s Decision 84/QD-UBND on investment portfolio of SHTP in 2024-2030, the high-tech parks must prioritize projects in sectors of cloud computing, quantum computing, and data center, with investments higher than $100 million per hectare. The decision showed that $100 million is the average investment for the designated areas of SHTP.
With a size of 4.5 hectares, Sembcorp’s project can have an investment capital of at least $450 million. $450 million is bigger than SHTP’s most recent approved data center project of $250 million, invested by local tech giant CMC.
