NTT DATA, a Japan-based global information technology (IT) infrastructure and services company, partnered with technology services firm The GEAR by Kajima to co-develop a smart-building solution in Singapore.

Anchored at Kajima’s regional headquarter (HQ) and research and development (R&D) hub, the initiative uses over 8,700 data points to showcase how intelligent infrastructure drives innovation, efficiency, and sustainability, NTT DATA said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the statement, NTT DATA provided network infrastructure, internet of things (IoT) platforms, and consulting services to streamline data flows and automate operations, enabling The GEAR building to function as a responsive, efficient smart ecosystem.

To overcome fragmented systems, The GEAR by Kajima sought a solution to integrate over 10 technologies and convert raw building data into actionable insights aligned with business key performance indicators (KPIs).

NTT DATA’s solutions have been instrumental in enabling The GEAR building to serve as a live testbed for emerging technologies, accelerating R&D and the development of industry-transforming solutions.

By strengthening the building’s digital backbone, these smart systems have enhanced The GEAR by Kajima’s ability to continuously improve building operations through enhanced operational efficiency; cost optimization and improved occupant experience; sustainable practices; strengthened cybersecurity.

It is noted that over 2,000 sensors generate 8,700+ data points to optimize inventory, procurement, and service delivery.

Centralized data and automated workflows enable faster decision-making, reduce manual intervention and improve overall operational agility.

Besides, remote monitoring and personalized controls will enhance comfort and productivity.

These innovations are designed to boost occupant comfort and productivity while delivering seamless user experience.

Additionally, energy monitoring and intelligent management systems are expected to drive significant cost savings through more efficient resource usage.

The smart systems implemented at The GEAR building continue to support its BCA Green Mark Platinum Super Low Energy (SLE) certification by optimizing energy consumption, enhancing lifecycle management, and enabling data-driven sustainability practices.

These capabilities help ensure ongoing compliance with SLE standards and reinforce the building’s commitment to environmentally responsible operations.

By optimizing energy consumption, enhancing lifecycle management and enabling data-driven sustainability practices, the building sets a benchmark for environmentally responsible design and operations in the region.

NTT DATA also embedded cybersecurity across all systems, securing IoT devices and data flows to protect the smart building ecosystem.

“This collaboration shows NTT DATA’s commitment to delivering infrastructure that drives innovation,

“The GEAR building is now a scalable, flexible environment for current and future needs,” said Png Kim-Meng, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore, NTT DATA.

Meanwhile, Luke Wu, Managing Director of The GEAR by Kajima, said The GEAR by Kajima represents their bold commitment to shaping the future of the built environment through innovation, collaboration, and purposeful technology adoption.

“Our partnership with NTT DATA has been instrumental in bringing this vision to life, by transforming The GEAR building into a living lab where smart systems, sustainability, and digital infrastructure converge,” he added.
