Malaysia-based Yinson Production Ghana has entered into a strategic research and development partnership with the Department of Petroleum Engineering at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and local capacity development in Ghana.
Yinson said in a statement on Monday that the five-year initiative, known as the Net-Zero Carbon Emissions Project (NCEP), will provide a comprehensive assessment of greenhouse gas emissions across key sectors in Ghana, with a focus on the oil and gas industry.
The project aims to generate high-quality data, improve emissions mapping and visualization, and recommend effective mitigation strategies to support the country’s ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
Formalized on June 12, 2025 at the KNUST campus in Kumasi, the partnership aligns with Ghana’s Local Content Legislative Instrument (LI 2204), which mandates that industry players invest in local research and development as part of their operational responsibility.
The collaboration will see KNUST leading the research, funded by Yinson, with regulatory support from the Petroleum Commission.
This model of engagement is designed to strengthen ties between academia, industry and government, and to foster evidence-based approaches to climate mitigation in Ghana.
Through this initiative, Yinson Production Ghana continues to demonstrate its dedication to supporting national climate objectives, promoting local research capabilities, and advancing practical solutions that enable a just and sustainable energy transition.
