The Advisory Committee on Sustainability Reporting (ACSR), chaired by the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), published on Wednesday a consultation paper to seek public feedback on the proposed framework for sustainability assurance.

SC said in a statement on Wednesday that the requirement for external assurance on sustainability reporting is necessary to ensure the reliability of disclosures by companies scoped-in under the National Sustainability Reporting Framework (NSRF).

The consultation paper on the proposed framework discusses, among others, the adoption of international sustainability assurance standards, oversight of assurance providers, competency requirements for assurance leaders and timelines for external assurance.

Feedback is sought from a broad range of stakeholders to ensure that the framework is practical, credible and sufficiently robust.

A robust sustainability assurance framework is essential to address concerns on greenwashing and to promote investor confidence in the sustainable reports issued by companies.

The public consultation period is from June 25, 2025 to August 6, 2025.
