EDGE Tutor International, the Philippines-based online tutoring outsourcing company, has successfully closed a $1 million Pre-Series A funding round, following its $800,000 seed round in 2023.
The firm said in a statement on Thursday that the Pre-Series A round was led by Seaborne Capital, M Venture Partners, Kaya Founders, Orvel Ventures, IdeaSpace, Lorinet Foundation, and prominent angel investors.
With this new capital, EDGE Tutor said it is set to scale operations and expand further into North America, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East, reinforcing its mission to provide Filipino educators with global online career opportunities.
The new investment will support the firm’s next phase of growth by expanding further into the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East—regions that have collectively grown from 5 percent of revenue in 2022 to 30 percent in 2024, with projections to surpass 50 percent by 2026.
The company also plans to scale its tutor capacity from 1,000 today to 5,000 by 2026 and invest in artificial intelligence (AI)-driven automation for teacher training, quality control, curriculum development, and lesson delivery.
“There’s nothing artificial about the passion and dedication of our 1,000+ tutors,
“We see it every day in the way they connect with students and make learning come alive,” said Henry Motte de la Motte, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of EDGE Tutor.
“Our 50 clients across 30 countries are experiencing firsthand that live instruction isn’t just valuable—it’s in demand,
“AI makes for a great co-pilot and a powerful supplement between live sessions, but we (along with our clients and their learners) find that nothing replaces the power of human connection,” he added.
Present in New York, London, Singapore, and Manila, EDGE Tutor has positioned itself as a leader in the online tutoring outsourcing industry, bridging the gap between high-quality Filipino educators and tutoring companies worldwide.
Through its business to business (B2B) model, the firm provides global education companies with skilled tutors and end-to-end management, delivering live instruction at scale under their own brand through a fully managed, white-labeled service.
“Every learner deserves a great teacher, and some of the best are right here in the Philippines,
“This investment allows us to expand global access to our world-class Filipino tutors while providing them with training, technology, and coaching to excel in online teaching,” said Cecilia Calvo Lewis, Chief Operating Officer of EDGE Tutor.
It is noted that the global tutoring market is valued at $200 billion, with its online component growing at 15 percent year over year, even post-pandemic.
Despite this surge in digital education, 80 percent of tutoring still takes place in person, with only 20 percent conducted online—highlighting a vast opportunity for the
online tutoring companies that EDGE Tutor supports.
Since launching in 2023, the firm has already delivered 800,000 lessons and is on track to surpass 1 million in early 2025.
It has significantly increased tutors’ disposable income by a factor of 2 to 3 times.
“The team has demonstrated fortitude and excellent operational capability in a tough environment,
“At M Venture Partners, we believe in supporting exceptional founders like Henry, who are solving one of life’s most meaningful missions – training teachers,” said Tony Yeoh of
MVP.
Paulo Campos, Founding Managing General Partner of Kaya Founders, said teaching is no exception to the globally recognized thriving services industry in the Philippines.
“Driven by ‘malasakit’, a Filipino value with no direct English translation, which embodies deep care and compassion—qualities that no technology can replace,
“This spirit perfectly defines the teachers at EDGE Tutor, whose dedication goes beyond instruction – they are passionate about their learners’ success and an unparalleled commitment to service excellence ensuring a global impact,” he added.
Meanwhile, Jay Haendler of Seaborne Capital said the firm has been an active part of the high-growth business process outsourcing (BPO) industry in the Philippines for the last 15 years and is convinced that the education and tutoring vertical is ready to leverage outsourcing to enhance learner outcomes, improve support for onshore teachers, and ensure tutoring becomes increasingly affordable.
