Malaysian clean energy solutions provider Gentari Sdn Bhd (Gentari), through its subsidiary Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, and Mastercard have announced their collaboration towards promoting electric vehicle (EV) adoption in Asia Pacific.
The two companies said in a statement on Wednesday they have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly explore advertising, marketing and other promotions, as well as opportunities to implement secure and enhanced digital payments solutions, aimed at promoting inclusive EV adoption in public transportation and support carbon reduction.
“Mastercard’s expertise in innovative digital payment solutions that drive sustainable and inclusive growth aligns with Gentari’s vision of leveraging technology to improve efficiency and customer experiences,” said Shah Yang Razalli, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Gentari and Chief Executive Officer of Gentari Green Mobility commented.
“Through Gentari Go, we provide seamless access to clean energy solutions – from home solar to green mobility, including cross-border EV roaming,
“With Mastercard’s advanced payment technology and extensive reach, we’re excited to explore how we can connect more people and communities as we strive to be the most valued green mobility solutions partner in the region,” he added.
According to the statement, Gentari is accelerating the shift to sustainable transportation by activating a vast network of owned and networked EV charging stations, addressing range anxiety, and promoting fast, accessible charging, while ensuring safety, reliability, convenience and value for customers.
Gentari currently operates the largest licensed direct current (DC) charging network in Malaysia, with over 170 DC charging points (CP) out of close to 1,000 CPs across Malaysia, Thailand and India.
Gentari also offers a network of over 3,800 EVs deployed through its vehicle-as-a-service (VaaS) offering across Malaysia, Indonesia and India.
The collaboration will leverage Mastercard’s digital payment capabilities and expertise in providing convenient and seamless payment solutions in the mobility sector, including in the EV space.
Globally, Mastercard’s urban mobility solutions have enabled seamless and intuitive payment experiences for drivers in refueling, parking, toll payments and EV charging.
In the EV space, Mastercard has collaborated on a universal payment-terminal solution that will establish new payment standards for EV charging in Europe and enhance the user payment experience at charging stations.
“Electric mobility is pivotal to shaping sustainable cities and economies of the future,
“By leveraging new technologies and innovations, along with collective effort, we can drive seamless development of EV infrastructure,” said Beena Pothen, Country Manager, Malaysia and Brunei, Mastercard.
According to her, simplifying the charging and payment experience is a crucial step in encouraging consumer adoption and accelerating the transition to electric vehicles.
“This collaboration with Gentari embodies this vision, aligning with Mastercard’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 and supporting Malaysia government’s goals for greater digitalization and ESG implementation,” she added.
The collaboration marks an important milestone for Mastercard and Gentari in support of the Malaysian government’s Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint 2021-2030 and National Energy Transition Roadmap.
These initiatives outline the country’s sustainability agenda through various measures including EV advancement across the supply-demand chain towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and developing Malaysia into a high-value green economy, said the statement.
