Malaysia-listed information and communications technology (ICT) system and solutions provider SNS Network Technology Berhad has partnered with global health advocate Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) to advance digital healthcare transformation in Malaysia.

To formalize the collaboration, SNS Network (M) Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SNS Network has today signed a partnership agreement with HIMSS, appointing it to be the first HIMSS Digital Health Technology Partner in Malaysia, SNS Network said in a statement on Thursday.

Based on the agreement, SNS Network will deploy digital health tools and resources developed by HIMSS such as the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) in Malaysia.

Kelvin Pah, Executive Director of SNS Network, said the partnership with HIMSS will enable the company to strengthen its customer base to cover a wider range of industries including the healthcare industry.

“The appointment comes timely as the Ministry of Health (MOH) aims to implement the digital transformation of healthcare at all health facilities nationwide within the next four to five years,” he added.

According to MOH, the implementation of the transformation through the ‘one individual, one record’ strategy would begin with the use of the electronic medical record (EMR) at every health facility that is involved.

The implementation of this initiative is crucial because it can ensure precision patient care at low cost, allowing MOH to carry out big data analytics related to digital health.

“According to MOH, up to March 2024, only 20 percent of hospitals are using the electronic medical record, with only 236 clinics out of 3,876 clinics using it. Therefore,
we see plenty of untapped opportunities in the healthcare industry,” he further added.
