Held on May 23, 2024, ORIGIN: Asia Tech Conference is a tech conference co-organized by TNGlobal and Macau Greater Bay Area Technology Exchange Association. This was also a BEYOND Week partner event at the recently concluded BEYOND Expo 2024 held at The Venetian Macao Cotai Expo, Macao.

As the tech landscape in Asia and Southeast Asia continues to boom, this conference serves as a platform for us to explore the latest advancements, share ideas, and build connections across borders.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Unleashing Potential, Reimagine Future”. While delving into the dynamic landscape of technology in Asia and Southeast Asia, the conference aims to explore how innovation knows no borders and how collaboration across cultures and geographies paves the way for a brighter future.

Notable speakers at the conference include top executives and representatives from exemplary venture capital firms, multinational corporations, unicorns, and innovative companies such as Gobi Partners, East Ventures, ATM Capital, Kairous Capital, Sunway Group, Genting Ventures, Malaysia Venture Capital Management Bhd (MAVCAP), RHL Ventures, FuturePlay, Hyundai Cradle, iFlytek, Carsome, Carousell, GoGoX, among others.

Southeast Asia – The bright spot for VC investing amidst global uncertainties?” was a panel that featured Thomas G. Tsao of Gobi Partners; Roderick Purwana of East Ventures; Angela Toy of Golden Gate Ventures, moderated by James Kwan of Jumpstart Media. The panelists discussed the opportunities and challenges of investing in this region and specific sectors in Southeast Asia that are particularly attractive to VCs, among others.

“Cultivating Innovation: Strategies for Building a Conducive Environment for Tech Growth in Southeast Asia” featured Bit Santos of Kickstart Ventures; Rachel Lau of RHL Ventures and Clarence Tan of Origgin Ventures, moderated by Pabpreng Liengsuk of Techsauce Media. The panel discussed the criteria and support needed to build a conducive environment tech ecosystem.

“Outsiders’ Insights: Capturing the Southeast Asian Tech Wave” featured Minjun Liang, Founding Partner ATM Capital, Jung-hee Ryu of FuturePlay, and Adrian Hia, Partner at Kairous Capital, moderated by James Jung of BeSuccess Media Group. The panelists shared their unique “outsider’s insights” on how to capture opportunities this dynamic market presents. Their unique perspectives and experiences in the Chinese, Malaysian, and South Korean tech ecosystems have provided invaluable insights for the audience.

“Beyond Unicorns: Building Sustainable Growth” featured Quek Siu Rui, Co-Founder & CEO of Carousell; Eric Cheng, Co-Founder, Chairman & Group CEO of CARSOME and Reeve Kwan, Co-Founder of GoGoX as panelists, moderated by Simran Vaswani from DealStreetAsia. The panelists from this so-called “unicorn panel” discussed the focus areas after their companies reached the “unicorn status” and how do these companies ensure long-term and sustainable growth.

“How AI is Sparking Disruptions & Innovations in Southeast Asia’s various industries”, brought together William Zhou of iFLYTEK, Edwin Loh of Imagine AI and Khanh P. Ngo of TikTok in a panel moderated by Tan Shyue Wern of MAVCAP. The panel dived deep into how AI is having an impact in various sectors in the region, providing opportunities for tech companies and tech startups.

The “Corporate Venture Capital (CVC): Navigating Innovation and Strategic Partnerships in the Digital Era” panel featured Raymond Hor of Sunway ILabs Venture; Josie Lai of Genting Ventures; Jie He of Global Brain and David Goh of Hyundai Cradle and was moderated by Hao Tran from Vietcetera Media. The panelists shared their expertise on how CVCs are fostering innovations and collaboration and why more corporations are looking into setting-up corporate venture arms.

The “Impact Investing and Sustainability” panel featured Tan Shyue Wern from MAVCAP and April Ong Vaño of Quest Ventures. Moderated by Hao Tran from Vietcetera Media, the panelists shared their views on impact investing and dived deep into several issues related to sustainability which has been gaining immense traction in recent years.
