In a significant move towards a more sustainable future, Solarvest Energy Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of leading clean energy expert Solarvest Holdings Berhad, has been appointed by Gentari Renewables Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Gentari Sdn Bhd (Gentari), to install solar power systems at over 300 PETRONAS stations across Malaysia.

This project, awarded to Solarvest, represents a major milestone in Malaysia’s energy transition journey, contributing to the nation’s clean energy goals, Solarvest said in a statement.

According to the firm, it demonstrates a growing environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitment in the oil and gas industry and solidifies Solarvest’s position as a key player in Malaysia’s energy transition.

Aimed to commence in April 2024, this project will see the installation of more than 5.4 MWp of solar capacity across more than 300 Petronas stations.

These solar systems are expected to be operational by 2027.

Once energized, it is estimated to offset around 5,035 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

“Solarvest is proud to partner with Gentari on this meaningful initiative. Today, oil and gas operations account for around 15% of total energy-related emissions globally, equivalent to 5.1 billion tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions,

“This project shows us the potential of solar energy to decarbonize retail fuel business operations. Solarvest is confident that our expertise will ensure the successful implementation of this project, paving the way for a cleaner Malaysia,” Solarvest Executive Director and Group Chief Executive Officer Davis Chong Chun Shiong said.

According to him, businesses in Southeast Asia are actively seeking solutions to navigate the energy transition.

By embracing renewable energy solutions like solar photovoltaics (PV) systems, he said businesses are taking concrete steps to drive sustainability and reduce environmental impact.

“The surge in demand is fueling our tender book and orderbook rapidly, reflecting in our significant revenue growth,

“Our ambition grows beyond Malaysia, we aim to drive the clean energy transition in the neighboring countries by tapping on Gentari’s global network,” he concluded.

Solarvest is a clean energy expert with a multi-national presence across Asia-Pacific in seven countries.

The Malaysia-founded company started as a one-stop solar photovoltaic system solution provider for residential, commercial and industrial, and utility-scale solar farms.

Today, Solarvest has accumulated renewable energy portfolio of over 1,200MW (on-going and completed).

The company is currently venturing into other clean energy solutions including, among others, hydrogen, battery storage, data center, energy efficiency, low-carbon mobility, and renewable energy certificates.

Gentari is a unit of Petronas that is focused on delivering clean energy solutions.

The firm’s three initial core pillars of renewable energy, hydrogen and green mobility form a comprehensive portfolio of solutions to help consumers in their decarbonization journey.

The firm’s mission is to be the leading next-generation commercial and industrial (C&I) and utility-scale renewable energy developer, a scale hydrogen producer and go-to industry partner, and to be Asia Pacific’s leading green mobility solutions partner.

In the long term, Gentari aims to be the most valued clean energy solutions partner.
