Workmate, a Singaporean on-demand staffing platform for the frontline workforce, officially announced its acquisition agreement with Persol Asia Pacific, one of the largest HR service providers in the Asia Pacific region.

The combination of Workmate and PERSOL will accelerate the advancement of Workmate’s on-demand manpower solutions across the Asia Pacific, Workmate said in a statement on Tuesday.

Founded in 2016, Workmate launched with the simple goal of helping businesses find and manage reliable frontline staff, and workers to get consistent work with reputable companies.

Today, Workmate has helped over 120,000 frontline workers find work and over 800 companies solve their challenges in building a reliable blue-collar workforce.

Workmate is disrupting traditional staffing agencies by using its technology to enable companies to quickly access a pre-vetted pool of high-quality workers for short and long-term contract work.

The platform leverages its proprietary worker performance data in its AI-powered candidate scoring algorithms to improve matching quality and deliver higher attendance rates, worker retention, and productivity.

PERSOL Asia Pacific is part of PERSOL Holdings, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Prime Market, and one of the largest human resources companies in Japan with sales of ¥1.1 trillion ($7.53 billion) in FY2021.

PERSOL has actively been investing in innovative HR technology companies in Asia, including Glints where it led the $22.5M Series C and participated in the $50 million series D.

“I am delighted to welcome Workmate to the PERSOL Group. We have been impressed by the value that Workmate’s all-in-one on-demand staffing platform delivers to candidates, workers, and employers and are excited to be partnering with them to accelerate their innovation and expand their services to other markets in Asia,” said Takayuki Yamazaki, Chief Executive Officer of PERSOL Asia Pacific.

The acquisition will allow Workmate to accelerate its investment into technology and sales as well as speed up its launch to new markets.

Currently operational in Thailand and Indonesia, Workmate is launching operations in its home base in Singapore this month.

“We are incredibly excited about joining forces with PERSOL at this stage in our journey. We have a big vision to change the way blue-collar workers find work,

“Combining Workmate’s technology with PERSOL’s expertise and regional infrastructure puts us in an elevated position to realize that vision,” said Workmate Founder and Chief Executive Officer Mathew Ward.

Following the merger, Workmate is now able to supercharge its growth across the region as they combine forces with the PERSOL Group.

While the terms of the deal are undisclosed, Workmate is set to run independently with Persol Asia Pacific as its parent company.
