J&T Express, an Indonesia-based international express logistics company, announced Tuesday it has invested MYR600 million ($136.46 million) to purchase a 30-acre parcel of land in Bandar Rimbayu, Selangor, Malaysia, to build a logistics center.
The land will be used to build an integrated logistics center for express distribution, logistics and transportation and warehousing to meet J&T Express’ growing business needs in Malaysia, J&T Express said in a statement.
This investment comes amid rapid growth in Southeast Asia’s (SEA) e-commerce industry, where 40 million new internet users came online last year and the region’s internet economy is set to reach $360 billion by 2025. J&T Express’ new logistics center will not only meet the growing business needs in Malaysia, but also strengthen its presence in SEA as it steps forth to resolve critical end-to-end logistics challenges in the region.
“Rimbayu is the golden triangle of Selangor, we believe in the future development potential of this area. This year marks the fifth year since J&T Express commenced operations in Malaysia. With diversified expansion and the strong momentum thanks to the continuous growth of the regional market, we have decided to invest MYR600 million ($136.46 million) to purchase a parcel of land and build a logistics center in Malaysia,
“In doing this, we hope to drive the development of the local economy, provide jobs for the community, and play an active role in the development of the local logistics industry and the long-term development of the community,” said Roy Zeng, Chief Executive Officer of J&T Express Malaysia.
