Thailand, apart from being one of the most popular destinations for Chinese travelers, is also a key market for Chinese startups who are making a foray into Southeast Asia. Thailand market has seen remarkable growth over the past couple of years, and its tech scene has been thriving since. Startup investments have increased in both Thailand and ASEAN, as observed from the continuous investment into Southeast Asia by China.
In 2018, Thailand startups raised funds of at least US$61.25 million, with FoodTech being the most attractive sector. Thailand investors are also actively looking abroad, with more than US$95 million invested in overseas companies.
With the very affordable cost of living, cities like Bangkok and Chiang Mai have become the places for digital nomads (both foreign and local) to start their own tech start-ups. Coupled with a high 82% internet penetration rate, Thailand – a nation with more than 69M population, definitely is a lucrative market for tech companies as innovation sweeps across the country.
